We are Mjölk. We set up our studio back in 2008
and named it after the finest word we could find in
the Czech-Swedish dictionary.
We craft bold architectural concepts driven by the conviction that quality design can transform how people live, work, and spend their time. We work with cities and landscapes seeking new energy, care, and thoughtful transformation. Our practice stands on respect for context, sustainable materials, and smart technologies that support long-term sustainable development.
We work for cities, companies, and private clients, helping them bring their visions to life. Our architecture speaks directly. The buildings we design are bold, beautiful, and deeply responsible toward their surroundings. Our goal is to fulfill our clients’ deepest desires—and have a great time doing it. We want this joy of freedom and creativity to resonate not just through our projects, but to carry over into the lives of the people we design for.

2008
Pár dní po ukončení studia na FUA TUL zakládáme vlastní ateliér s nejlíbezněji znějícím jménem, náhodně vybraným z česko-švédského slovníku.
2010
Protloukat se architektonickou scénou bez realizace bylo těžké. A tak se k nám připojil náš kamarád Vojta Urban, který nám na pozici „člověk s odstupem“ pomohl najít první projekty. Vlastníma rukama jsme postavili saunu na Liberecké přehradě a jsme začali být trochu vidět.
2012
Together with our intern Cécile, we won a competition for a wild project in frozen Canada —which, as it turned out, wasn’t quite as frozen
as we’d expected.
2013
In the deserted streets of Liberec, we decided to create the Kino Liberec film festival. And just like that, we kicked off a years-long tradition of a street-style multiplex in a city that wasn’t ready to go to sleep just yet.
2014
We dived into the waters of teaching. We led our first studio at FUA TUL, spent the summer as mentors at the Hello Wood festival in Hungary, and started running like crazy in Divočina—our very own series of races.
2016
We were missing a proper pub, so together with our friend Rado, we decided to rescue a closed-down Liberec legend. It’s been bringing us joy ever since. At Vokno, our beer is crisp and razor-sharp, topped with a head as thick as the Himalayas.
2020
The Špička Lookout above Tanvald won an award at the Czech Architecture Award, and we founded the Lesní koupaliště association with a single goal: to get this forgotten corner of Liberec under our management and breathe new life into it.
2021
Both lookout projects, Špička Lookout and The Guard Patrol, made it into the nominations for the Grand Prix of the Society of Architects.
2022
We decided to establish our own engineering practice. We didn’t go far for a name, so our design team bears the harmonious name Mjölking. The lookout series The Guard Patrol made it to the finals of the Czech Architecture Award, and the Glass Cottage, for a change, shone in the Grand Prix.
2023
The year 2023 was the year of Kloboucká lesní Headquarters, which won many significant awards. Victory in the prestigious Grand Prix of Architects competition put a symbolic dot on a project that would not have been created without the trust and courage of a client you don't collaborate with every day.
Moving forward!
We’re exploring, testing, experimenting. Even after all these years, we still feel like we’re at the very beginning. Projects keep gathering more awards, but more important to us than the prizes is the fact that we’re still having fun.

Our work is sealed by numerous Czech and international awards. In addition to our standard practice, we are also active in the academic sphere. Occasional involvement at the Faculty of Arts and Architecture in Liberec is always a refreshing experience for us. Nor are we indifferent to the city we live in. For several years now, we have been taking care of the development of the romantic Lesní koupaliště. We founded the KI-NO urban festival, organize the Divočina running races, and operate the Vokno bar, which forms an important part of Liberec's cultural scene.

We know that the path from sketch to completion can be thorny. To ensure our projects run smoothly, we created Mjölking—a team of civil engineers who speak the same language we do. We use their design and engineering services for our own projects and ambitious clients, but now we are also opening them up to other architecture studios. We are here for everyone who wants to build with precision and with the confidence that the technical solution will be just as high quality as the design itself.
