Cabin by the caravan

Martina, Marek, and Josefína want to build a cabin in the Křivoklát region next to their existing maringotka. It's a beautiful spot, and this cabin won't be just any ordinary cabin…

Mornings here are beautiful. Dewdrops glisten on cobwebs in the meadow outside the windows, and the cold kitchen floor greets sleepyheads in the living room. Wood crackles in the stove, and tea simmers on the stovetop. We renovated the house with the future in mind, but at the same time, we didn't want to give up all those beautiful, wild, and uncomfortable qualities left over from its past. It was important not to strip the cottage of its invisible heart, the scent of wood, and the musty chill of granite blocks. We preserved whatever we could. The rest we complemented with a new quality that doesn't try to compete with the past.

For now, it looks like a pile of scrap metal, but that will soon change. We will have the 15 x 6 meter hall repaired and painted turquoise. Then we'll set it onto a newly built concrete foundation. Prefabricated sandwich panels will take care of the roof, and the exterior walls will be glazed. This will create a large living space, supplemented by two bedroom boxes that provide the cabin's residents with privacy for a peaceful sleep. You can climb up onto the boxes. The upper surface serves as a sleeping spot for friends or grandma and grandpa when they come to babysit the little one. In front of the glass window surfaces, we will install a mesh for climbing plants to prevent the interior from turning into a greenhouse in the summer.

The center of the living area will be a kitchen with a living room where the owners can enjoy great views and sunshine. Martina will read by the window, drink coffee, and watch Mára and Josefína tinkering with something in the garden—unless Mára happens to be composing the next big musical hits in the adjacent maringotka, which is set to remain in the garden even after the cabin is finished.

The garden will be landscaped to be low-maintenance while providing enough space for evening sausage roasts, guitar playing, and other antics that fresh Křivoklát air calls for. As for us, we're looking forward to the housewarming party!
