Municipal house in Adršpach
Every old house hides a story within. When we were given the opportunity to renovate an old house in Horní Adršpach and transform it into a new municipal center, we knew we didn't want to overwrite this story, but rather meaningfully build upon it. Our goal was to create a vibrant venue for gatherings and accommodation that feels confident and modern without losing any of the qualities of the original building.

We approached the building's architecture with extreme formal simplicity and humility toward the site. Externally, we preserved the traditional silhouette and clean character of the white facade, allowing the house to fit naturally into its surroundings. This makes the surprise awaiting visitors inside all the greater.
We completely reorganized the internal layout so the house could serve multiple roles at once. We opened up the entire ground floor, dedicating it to the community. The result is a spacious municipal hall with back-of-house facilities, dominated by playful linear lighting and genuine terrazzo flooring. On the second floor, a police office found a permanent home, sharing the level with the first of three guest apartments. We sensitively tucked the remaining two apartments under the roof in the attic, exposing and celebrating the beauty of the original timber roof trusses.
The interiors balance on the fine line between history and modernity. We designed the furnishings using materials that are contemporary, yet timeless and of high quality. Clean white surfaces and light wood are complemented by soft pastel tones in the built-in furniture, giving the entire space a fresh, yet deeply cozy and welcoming character.
For Horní Adršpach, we didn't just design a building, but above all a functional space that is unpretentious and ready to serve locals and guests for decades to come.
